Actually, my wife Kate and I were downright pleased with ourselves. Let's face it, when we started out all we knew about American craft was that we liked it very much. We shopped at stores that sold American craft. We bought presents for each other in shops that sold American craft. In one of those delicious twists in life, we now carry the work of artists whose earlier work we purchased at shops that sold American craft. Now we enter our 15th year in business. We wanted to do something special for this anniversary. So we decided to put ANNIE*S online. Well, it's not exactly the whole of ANNIE*S online, it's more like ANNIE*S greatest hits online. The reality is we offer a lot of different items in the shop. Everything from jewelry and jewelry boxes to glass vases and paperweights to mirrors, pottery, Judaic-themed pieces, kaleidoscopes, metal wall sculpture, tiles, bookmarks, etc. It would be a huge undertaking to put everything online, and it would be an even bigger job to maintain a catalog like that. Especially with the way we do things in the shop. You see, sometimes we have an item on display and when it's purchased we get one from the "back". But usually when an item is purchased it comes off the "floor" and gets replaced by something else. When a pair of earrings is purchased another pair of earrings replaces them but not necessarily the same pair or even the same jeweler's work. That's just the way we do it and have been for the past 14 years. It certainly keeps the shop "fresh". So anyway, the online catalog will work in similar fashion. Of course as we move forward we will adjust our own purchasing practices to more closely work with those of the catalogs' sales. Does anyone really care about the "behind the scenes" gobblygook? That's a rhetorical question. Please don't e-mail me the answer. Speaking of e-mail, we're happy to hear from you. Tell us what you like about the site, make suggestions, tell us what we did wrong and, of course, tell us why you think ANNIE*S is even better than sliced bread. You can e-mail us at info@anniesnewburyport.com or call us at 978-462-5577. Ted Hochheiser
